Seven Horrors is an invite-only survival horror game run by yours truly, Al, the former mod of
edgeofreverie! It is heavily influenced by Japanese myth and urban legend. Characters will wake up in the dorm room of an abandoned high school with nothing but a color-coded school uniform on their back and a mysterious omamori in their pocket. The IC goal of the game is for characters to defeat the ghosts that haunt the school, while also learning more about what happened before their arrival. In the midst of their battle against the spooks that are trying to kill them, surely they will also figure out a way to return home! Right? Right???
The game will be run in separate arcs, with a different big bad being featured in each one. The length of these arcs will depend on a variety of factors, including IC actions and my OOC energy levels. But the game does have a set end point! I'm just not sure how long it'll take for us to get there.
The primary OOC goal of this game is to provide a high-stress, dangerous environment in which characters can forge bonds. CR building is my top priority, and I personally love CR forged in the fires of BAD THINGS HAPPENING. This does mean that the game will skew towards heavier events (BECAUSE I, AS A MOD, ALSO WISH TO DO BAD THINGS TO YOUR CHARACTERS), but! That said, I also understand the need for balance, so the game will still provide room for more light-hearted things happening, too. Players will also be encouraged to host their own light-hearted events, like parties and get-togethers. A KEY TO A HEALTHY LIFESTYLE IS EVERYTHING IN MODERATION.
But also, please keep the intent for a heavier atmosphere in mind when apping your characters. Occasionally, things may seem ICly hopeless and bleak, so make sure you app someone who can flourish/be fun to play in that kind of environment!
Character cap??
Y'all I need to keep the game relatively small for my own sanity. . . and also because I do want to provide a personalized experience for people in the game. So for now, the game has a character cap of 35, and players may app one character each. The canon cap is 3, with the franchise cap being 5.
How is the game going to be run?
"ECATS" style! I put that in quotes because I don't want people to think this means they have to write quick and short tags for every thread, rofl. I promise I do not care about your preferred tagging style; if you want to be prose-y, go for it! If you want to slam down a one-word response for comedic timing, that's also okay! People should tag in whatever way feels the most natural for their own personal RP style and the thread. As long as someone is making AC, then it's all good.
"ECATS" style also means the game will not have regularly scheduled monthly events or event posts with multiple prompts. My personal preference when it comes to modding games is "mingles with hooks," i.e. posts that are open and can be used for literally any purpose, but have a "hook" that people can engage with at will. A good example of this style of mod posting is
sheep_game. For the first few month's of the game's life, I intend to post mingles with hooks about once a week/bi-weekly, depending on player energy levels. Once the game really gets going and players feel more comfortable making their own posts with their own hooks, I'll ease off on the mod-posted ones to make room for player-initiated things.
I super encourage players to make their own posts with their own open prompts, even during the period where I'm posting weekly/bi-weekly mod mingles. The goal is to have more player-made posts than mod-made ones in the end, so! Feel free to go wild!
So what does survival horror mean?
It basically means characters will be living in an environment that is constantly trying to kill them, and they will have to be SMART and CLEVER to avoid the spooks taking their lives. Think Silent Hill! Or Resident Evil! This does NOT mean resource-gathering; characters will have all the basic resources they need for survival. They may have to work a little harder to upgrade these resources, though.
Is this a team game?
Yes! And at the same time, no. Those from
edgeofreverie (and other similar games, like
imeeji_frontstage and
aather and
sheep_game and even Ye Olde Sabra la Tau) may remember that characters were sorted into teams, who were then pitted against each other in a series of games that they could win for prizes. While in Seven Horrors characters will be sorted into teams, I don't intend for those sorts of team-versus-team games to be a primary focus of the RP. They will occur! 100% they WILL happen because we ALL LOVE THEM. But they will happen very rarely and only as part of the plot itself. The teams exist mostly because I like sorting people into color-coded units. . . and also, various events can and will affect members of each team in different ways.
While this game takes inspiration from the teamnesia format of the above games, please note that this is not a memory loss game! Characters will retain all of their memories upon arrival to the school.
Is there a character cap?
Yep. The game will be capped at 35 characters. This is to keep it relatively small so I don't get overwhelmed, and also so I can provide you all with a more personalized experience.

For now, Seven Horrors is an invite-only game. Due to the small character cap, you must have either gotten an invite from me personally OR be on my Plurk list in order to app. Right now, I am NOT allowing +1s! This may change in the future; if things go well and I feel like I can bump up the character cap a bit, I will open invites to friends-of-friends and people not on my Plurk list. Are there NPCs as part of the metaplot?
ABSOLUTELY NOT I LEARNED MY LESSON LAST TIME. The only characters that will inhabit this school are the PCs and the spooky ghosts trying to kill them. ♥
